Plaza Paraíso Torremolinos 2026 · 25 July – 13 September at the Plaza de Toros
Málaga in summer means beach, culture, food and an events calendar that never stops. There are options for every budget — from a free sardine-grilling night on the beach to boutique festival concerts. The unmissable plan of the season is Plaza Paraíso in Torremolinos: the most distinctive and affordable open-air festival on the Costa del Sol.
The star plan: Plaza Paraíso in Torremolinos
If you can only do one thing in Málaga this summer, make it this.
The star plan
Plaza Paraíso
Plaza Paraíso is the summer's most distinctive entertainment festival on the Costa del Sol. It runs from 25 July to 13 September at an extraordinary venue: the historic Plaza de Toros de Torremolinos, transformed into an open-air space with concerts, theatre, food trucks, fairground lighting and an energy you won't find anywhere else.
It's not just an event — it is the meeting point of the Málaga summer. The bullring has it all: artificial grass to sit and relax on, warm string lights as the afternoon fades, themed decoration that changes with every event, bars and social zones. And at the most special moments, fireworks over the Torremolinos sky.
June and September are the smart months. Good weather, fewer crowds and lower prices. July and August have the most festivals and events but also peak heat (30–34°C) and near-full hotel occupancy across the coast. For Plaza Paraíso specifically: the festival runs 25 July to 13 September, so June is the warm-up and September gives you good weather with the festival still running and crowds thinning out.
Nature & adventure: the best of the province
The Caminito del Rey is the province's essential nature excursion — 7.5 km of boardwalks pinned to vertical cliffs more than 100 metres above the Guadalhorce river gorge. It is one of the most photographed hiking routes in Europe and the most exhilarating outing you can do from the Costa del Sol. Book ahead, wear walking shoes, bring water. About 45 minutes from Torremolinos.
Kayak and paddleboard along the coast. Equipment hire is available in Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola without any prior experience. An entirely different way to see the coastline.
Cueva de Nerja — 50 km east of Málaga, with a vast natural auditorium where concerts are held in summer. Combine with the beaches at Burriana or El Playazo for a perfect day out.
Festivals & concerts
Málaga has a strong open-air music programme in summer:
Plaza Paraíso (Torremolinos, 25 Jul – 13 Sep) is the most distinctive — a whole season of events rather than a single weekend festival. Affordable tickets, unique venue, programme that changes week by week.
Marenostrum Fuengirola is one of Spain's most beautiful concert venues — Castillo Sohail with the Mediterranean as backdrop. Big names, good production, higher ticket prices.
Starlite Marbella — boutique, intimate concerts at the Nagüeles quarry. Premium experience, premium prices. Nearly 50 dates from June to August.
And then there is Furor The Show — one of the most fun open-air afternoon parties of the summer. Inspired by the iconic TV game show, it brings the crowd together at the Torremolinos bullring for singing, challenges and a great time in the afternoon sun. Sundays 2, 9 and 16 August are not to be missed.

Culture in Málaga city
Museo Picasso Málaga — Picasso was born here and the city celebrates it well. The 16th-century Palacio de Buenavista is worth the visit on its own. Extends its programme in summer. Best for the hottest part of the day.
Alcazaba & Roman Theatre — entry to the Alcazaba from €3.50, the Roman Theatre is free. Together they form one of Andalucía's most impressive historical complexes. Summer evening opening hours: seeing them lit up with the city lights below is an entirely different experience.
Centre Pompidou Málaga — the only Centre Pompidou outside France, at the Muelle Uno harbour. Works by Miró, Bacon and Picasso plus temporary exhibitions. Perfect for escaping the August heat with a dose of contemporary art.
Food: the dishes you must try
Espetos de sardinas — the defining dish of the Costa del Sol summer. Sardines skewered on bamboo and grilled over a wood fire on the beach. The best are in Pedregalejo, El Palo and La Carihuela (Torremolinos). It is a summer ritual, not just a meal.
Porra antequerana — thicker and more flavoursome than salmorejo. A cold tomato and bread cream with olive oil and garlic that is the perfect summer lunch. Best in Antequera or the bars of Málaga's historic centre.
Ajoblanco — Málaga's great underrated dish. A cold almond and garlic cream that cools you down better than anything else on a hot day. If you try just one new dish in Málaga this summer, make it this one.
Free & low-cost things to do
Noche de San Juan (23 June) — all the Costa del Sol beaches fill with bonfires, music and thousands of people. In Torremolinos it is particularly vivid. Free entry. One of the most beautiful nights of the year.
Feria de Málaga (August) — during the second half of August, the city transforms. The fairground concerts are free. The atmosphere in the casetas of the historic centre, also free. The most Andalusian night of the summer.
Muelle Uno & the port — seafront restaurants with sea-view terraces, the Palmeral de las Sorpresas for an evening stroll and live performances. Málaga's simplest and most pleasant plan.
Castillo de Gibralfaro at sunset — the walk up takes 30–40 minutes. At the top: a panoramic view of Málaga, the port and the Mediterranean. With the city lights on below, it is priceless.
White villages — Frigiliana, Mijas, Ronda. One-day escapes that cost little and deliver a lot. Frigiliana is the most photogenic; Ronda and its Puente Nuevo the most dramatically impressive.
In summary
Málaga in summer delivers: beach, culture, gastronomy, nature and a packed events calendar. If you can only choose three things: do the Caminito del Rey, eat espetos in La Carihuela and go to Plaza Paraíso in Torremolinos. Those three plans capture everything that makes a Málaga summer great.
June and September are the smartest months — good weather, fewer crowds and lower prices than July–August. If you want the biggest festival calendar, July and August are peak season. Plaza Paraíso runs 25 July to 13 September, so September still gives you the festival with smaller crowds.
