Playa del Bajondillo — the most central beach in Torremolinos · Costa del Sol
Torremolinos has more than 7 km of coastline divided into six main beaches. The problem with most guides is they lump them all together without telling you what each one is actually like. Here is what makes each beach different — and who it suits best.
Beach 01
El Bajondillo
Best for: social scene & facilitiesTown centreLively
Torremolinos' most visited beach: 1.1 km of golden sand right in the centre of town, walkable from the hotel strip. Everything is here — sun loungers, beach bars, showers, first aid, playgrounds, volleyball, jet skis and kayaks. The paseo marítimo behind it is packed with places to eat and drink.
It fills up fast in summer. Arrive before 10am if you want space. Not the tranquil option, but absolutely the most convenient.

Beach 02
La Carihuela
Best for: families with childrenLargest beachCalm water
Torremolinos' biggest beach — almost twice the size of El Bajondillo. Its calm, shallow water makes it ideal for children learning to swim. The seafront promenade is lined with chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants, with playground zones and sun-lounger hire along the full length of the beach.
If you're travelling with family, this is your beach. Space, safety and everything you need without the crowds of Bajondillo. The old fishing village behind it is also the best place in town for espetos (grilled sardines).

Beach 03
Los Álamos
Best for: water sportsKitesurfingLess crowded
North of the town centre, less well-known and much less packed. The sand here is darker (minerals in the water), with palm trees providing good shade along the promenade. Consistent winds and moderate swell make it the local favourite for kitesurfing, sailing and wakeboarding.
The modern beach clubs here have relaxed music and good food. The best option if you like activity and a slightly more local feel. The C1 Cercanías train stops at Los Álamos station.

Beach 04
Playamar
Best for: relaxed sunbathingClassicFine sand
Historically one of Torremolinos' most established beaches, chosen since the 1960s by those who want facilities without the intensity of El Bajondillo. Over a kilometre of soft sand and gentle waves, with sun loungers, beach bars and a more unhurried atmosphere.
If you want to spend a day without rushing, sunbathe and properly switch off, Playamar is your choice.

Beach 05
El Saltillo
Best for: escaping the touristsLittle-knownQuiet
The alternative for those who want real space. Small, little-known and with fewer facilities than El Bajondillo — but that is exactly what makes it special. More room, fewer people, more silence.
Perfect for reading, unwinding or simply being left alone. Do not expect a beach bar on every corner, but you probably won't need one.

The favourite of local families with babies and young children. Small and safe, with very sheltered water and a designated children's zone. Not the most spectacular beach, but the most protected — ideal for parents of children who cannot yet swim confidently.

How to choose the right Torremolinos beach
There is no objectively "best" beach — just the right one for you. The key is knowing what you are after:
Social scene & full facilities? → El Bajondillo. Central, bars, jet skis and guaranteed buzz.
After peace and quiet? → El Saltillo or Playamar. Fewer people, relaxed atmosphere.
Into water sports? → Los Álamos. Kitesurfing, consistent winds, beach clubs.
Beach by day, Plaza Paraíso in the afternoon
Torremolinos doesn't stop at the beach. From 25 July to 13 September, the Plaza de Toros becomes Plaza Paraíso: live music, theatre, gastronomy and open-air entertainment. The perfect way to round off a beach day on the Costa del Sol. See the full programme and book tickets before they sell out.
Quick answers
FAQ: Torremolinos beaches
Which is the best beach for families in Torremolinos?
La Carihuela is the top choice for families. At 2.1 km long with calm, shallow water, it is ideal for children learning to swim. There are playground areas and sun-lounger hire along the full length. For very small children, Montemar is even more sheltered.
Which Torremolinos beach is least crowded?
El Saltillo is the quietest — small and little-known, with significantly fewer tourists. Playamar is also more relaxed than El Bajondillo. Los Álamos, being further north, also attracts fewer package holiday crowds.
Where can I kitesurf in Torremolinos?
Los Álamos is the best beach for kitesurfing and water sports. It has consistent winds, moderate swell and is less crowded than the central beaches. Locals who do water sports prefer it for exactly these reasons.
Is there parking near the beaches?
Yes, but central beaches (Bajondillo, Carihuela) fill up early in peak summer. Arrive before 10am or use the Cercanías C1 train — Torremolinos station is 5 minutes' walk from El Bajondillo. Los Álamos and El Saltillo have easier parking.
What time do the beach bars close?
Most chiringuitos operate from around 9am to 8pm. Some stay open later for special events. For dinner with a sea view, arrive before sunset or try the restaurants on the paseo marítimo, which open later into the evening.

The open-air festival at the Torremolinos bullring
